1551 Tyndale-Taverner's Bible Folio Leaf — Psalms 82–88

Premium Psalter Leaf

An authentic, original 1551 Tyndale-Taverner's Bible folio leaf, printed by John Day and representing an important chapter in the history of the English Reformation. This distinctive edition combines elements of William Tyndale's English biblical work with the revisions and editorial influence associated with Richard Taverner.

This remarkable leaf preserves a continuous sequence of passages from Psalms 82 through 88, encompassing devotional poetry, communal lament, prayer, and appeals for divine protection and restoration. Its substantial textual content, historic black-letter typography, woodcut initials, and detailed marginal notes make it an especially compelling example of sixteenth-century English biblical printing.

Woodcut Initials & Marginal Notes:

The leaf is enhanced by historic woodcut initial letters introducing multiple Psalms, together with extensive marginal notes printed in a smaller, finely detailed typeface along the outer margins.

Condition

Layout:

The leaf retains its natural historic format as originally printed and bound, with full side margins and clearly preserved marginal text.

Paper Integrity:

The original sixteenth-century rag paper is crisp, structurally strong, and exceptionally stable, with clean and intact edges.

Patina & Historic Stains:

The leaf displays a warm, uniform cream-and-tan antiquarian age toning. A faint historic damp stain extends horizontally along the upper margin, while a second small, localized historic stain appears near the center-bottom margin tip. Both remain confined to the blank margins and do not interfere with the legibility of the printed text or woodcut decoration.

A particularly substantial Psalter leaf, this surviving 1551 example brings together nearly seven consecutive Psalms in a single original folio leaf, offering an unusually rich glimpse into the physical character of English biblical printing during the Reformation.
